About Douglas Fanning and his studio DYAD
DYAD studio in New York City was established in 1994 by designer Douglas Fanning as his personal studio. The Studio has since evolved into a dynamic, multi-disciplined collaboration, harnessing the dialogue between Architecture and other Arts, offering services ranging from interior design to unique furniture commissions and home accessory collections, all maintaining a fine balance of intellectual articulation, proportion, structure, detail, materiality and the highest respect for craftsmanship.
Founder's Statement
Welcome to DYAD—a place where my vision of brave, contemporary design becomes a unique piece of beauty and function. Each design is an expression of my thoughts and feelings and in its own way becomes a personal experience and triumph. DYAD is not only a business, it is a dream.
After completing my Master of Architecture degree at Columbia University School of Architecture and spending several years working at architectural firms in Manhattan, I realized that my true ambition was to have my own design studio. I soon left the corporate arena to pursue my dream. Freelance, moonlighting, and solid determination led me to establish DYAD. In 2001, I moved my studio to a large renovated warehouse space in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Today I not only work from my studio, but also share a metal shop and garage in nearby Gowanus with four sculptors. In this setting I can now design, build, and complete my ideas.
DYAD is the culmination of more than 20 years of study, travel, and growth. As the business grows and matures, the inquisitive expression remains at its heart. I have been fortunate to have many extremely talented designers and artists contribute to projects and to share in the successes. The road traveled has taken me many places and allowed me to forge many relationships. All of these opportunities continue to renew the dream and enrich the process.
Today DYAD is flourishing. New and bigger challenges are ever-present, but the original spirit remains true. DYAD is a place to test myself and my colleagues by creating the very best designs for our clients. We aspire to be fearless and trusting in our ideas and to build them with the greatest care and the highest quality.
Thank you for visiting. I welcome your contact and I look forward to exploring how I fit into your lifestyle.
Douglas
